9JA NEWS: Boko Haram ex-intelligence chief opens up on Shekau

Boko Haram ex-Chief Intelligence Officer (CIO) Abdulkadir Abubakar, has warned the leader of the violent  sect, Abubakar Shekau, to stop using innocent girls who are being hypnotized as human bombs.

Abubakar, otherwise known as Abu Muhammad, also warned other factional leaders of the group including Mamman Nur, Abu Musad Albarnawi and Abbor Minok to repent from their deadly ways and embrace peace.

Abubakar was the CIO of the terror group and one of its top commanders, until his arrest in June by the military in Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The ex-commander who spoke to PRNigeria in his cell in Maiduguri, regretted that a lot of innocent young girls were captured, tortured, hypnotised and used by Abubakar Shekau for suicide bombing.

“I am calling on Abubakar Shekau, Mamman Nur, Abbor Minok and Abu Musad Albarnawi to lay down thier arms and to stop the senseless killings”, he said.

“Shekau has continued to demonstrate his cruelty and atrocities against humanity. He had killed a lot of souls, destroyed homes and rendered people homeless. He continued to exercise God’s authority to himself by killing innocent souls at will without any justification.

“This was the why all his commanders left him. He doesn’t have pity for the aged, women, children as well as young girls, who are mostly suffering and dying in his camp.

“His followers are raping and committing all sort of atrocities under his nose while he continued to show no concern. Many who dared to question his dastardly acts, were promptly eliminated on his orders.

“Some of his commanders like Aliyu and our Chief Mechanic known as “Paper” were killed for begging Shekau to provide food to mothers and their children at the time our camp in Abiso ran out of food.

“When Shekau was told to help them, he said he did not come to Sambisa to feed the Children of “Handak” he said if 100,000 of them die everyday, that’s none of his business.

“At some point women became beggars to feed thier children in Sambisa, while at least 13 children died of malnutrition and other hardship meted on them by Shekau.

“This is the reason why Mamman Nur, Albarnawi, Man Chari, Abbor Minok and Abba Albarnawi including myself deserted him and form our own factional groups. Mamman Nur moved to the shores of Chad while Albarnawi and Abbah (last born of Muhammad Yusuf) remained at the shores of Magumeri.

“All of us as at then were all hunting to kill Shekau just like the Nigerian military because of the attrocities he committed under our name. We had fought nine times with him and killed many of his men.

“Shekau must know that all those women he is sending with Improvised Explosive Device(IEDs), in places of worships, market and schools are our sisters and mothers and they don’t deserve to die.

“He must know that one day he would be called and to account for all the atrocities he has committed in the name of Islam. There is no compulsion in religion. Indeed God has really allowed the truth to prevail over falsehood.

“There is no verse of the Holy Qur’an that permitted Muslims to kill anybody. God will punish even those who feel happy while we are killed not to talk of killing innocent souls. So you cannot kill anyone who doesn’t believe in your faith or practice.

“Arrogantly, Shekau declared a whole country and people living it as infidels and ordered that everyone living in that city and not Sambisa must be killed. Islam can never be synonymous to senseless killings.

“Shekau should remember that he was nobody but ordinary student. He should remember that he had only two sets of cloths when we were in Maiduguri. I remember ever telling him that, ‘Brother Shekau, why can’t you buy more cloths to wear? He once told me that he was afraid of meeting God in the day of judgement.

“He should look at himself and ask if he has achieved from the senseless course. Despite all the looted wealth and power he had acquired, was he able to buy himself good health? He is now a cripple. Isn’t that a lesson for him to learn and understand that God is punishing you for the pain you inflicted on others?”

9JA NEWS: FuelScarcity: “We are trying to move as quickly as we can” – Osinbajo As He Visits Filling Stations

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the Federal Government is attempting to move as quickly as it can to end fuel scarcity in the nation.

Osinbajo had on Sunday visited two filling stations in Lagos – Oando Filling Station in Lekki, and Hayden Petrol Station – in Victoria Island, where he spoke to people waiting on the queue.

His Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, released a statement Monday morning quoting the vice president on what he said:

It’s such a shame that Christmas has been, to some extent, with this sort of discomfort.

This is deeply regretted, and l know that, despite the resilience and strength of people in Lagos and the Nigerian people, we would see ourselves through this and will enjoy our Christmas and have a great new year.

We are trying to move as quickly as we can. Obviously, people have gone through a lot of pain and anguish in the past few days, and that is deeply regretted.

We are trying to do what we can to move as quickly as possible and there is certainly enough products to be able to solve the problem.

We will be able to solve the problem; the short period of scarcity is quite a bit of burden, but we know that so long as products are enough and the trucks coming out and feeding the stations, this will be over very soon.

I am going around with the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources here in Lagos to ensure that first, the trucks are being loaded from all the depots, and also looking at the filling stations to see that things are moving on very well.

The GMD of the NNPC is also working in Abuja to see that things are moving quickly and we are moving around the country. So we expect that it will be resolved very quickly.

9JA NEWS: Christmas: Tinubu calls on Nigerians to Support Buhari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Bola Tinubu, on Sunday called on Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the country’s current economic challenges.

Tinubu made the call in a Christmas message signed by his Media Officer, Tunde Rahman in Lagos.

He urged Nigerians to learn from the example of Jesus Christ “who faced and overcame the greatest evil” by uniting to overcome the country’s various challenges. He said:

The challenges facing the country are difficult ones. Let us unite to overcome our challenges and keep the hope alive.

We must support President Buhari and complement his efforts in his resolve to stimulate the economy and reposition the country.

The president needs our support, understanding and prayers. We must fully break the terrorism of Boko Haram and completely put down the last vestiges of the terrorists.

We must continue to pray for the men in uniform who risk their lives to keep us safe and to end this scourge on the nation. I commend our troops battling the terrorists. I thank them again for their courage and bravery.

Let us remember those who have been dispossessed of their homes and traumatised by the evil of these terrorists and pray that they all will be able to return home soon and begin their lives a new and better.

Yet, we must do more than pray. We all have something to give, something to contribute to the greater good. As Jesus gave of himself that we may live better, we must give of ourselves that others around us may have a better life.

Tinubu also urged Nigerians to reflect and recognise how Jesus lived and what he lived for while celebrating Christmas. He said:

Christmas Day, is one of the most precious days of the year for it celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.

Be you Christian, Muslim or just a human being with a soul that yearns for peace, compassion and hope, Jesus Christ belongs to all of us. His teachings are universal in application and speak of truth eternal.

He reached out to all. Jesus fed the poor and healed the sick. He spread compassion and charity and preached love and justice. There are no finer aims than these and we can do no better than to do all we can to follow his example.

We must commit ourselves to peace and unity. Let us eschew all bitterness and bigotry.

9JA NEWS: Tragic Christmas day accident at Lekki County Estate few hours ago due to racing

According to Twitter user @chukaobi, An accident at Lekki County Estate few hours ago left a man unconscious, the accident is an aftermath of racing.
Here’s his tweet;
“At exactly 12:50am today (Christmas Day) my Uni alumni pals & I were coming out of Lekki County Estate when two cars flashed by us, the sound they made you’d think they’re power bikes. 3minutes later 1 lost control & crashed right under the footbridge. Here’s what’s left of a BMW
But Nigerians are amazing people. The car WAS ON FIRE when we got there yet already people were relentlessly trying to prise the wreckage aside with tools to reach was already supposed to be a dead man, despite what seemed like impending explosion. Neither factor deterred them.

Called Emergency Services & they were on their way as at when we left; by then the windscreen had been peeled away- miraculously the guy was still breathing though unconscious. Can’t be more than in his mid 20s. Racing. During #FuelScarcity. Be Safe Out There. Merry Christmas”

9JA NEWS: “Court of Appeal verdict vindicates me” – Bukola Saraki

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said that the decision made by the Court of Appeal to dismiss 15 of the 18 counts made against him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) proves his innocence.

In a statement released on his Facebook page, signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Saraki described the Federal Government’s claims against him as preposterous, and that it has “fallen like a pack of cards and lack any basis.”

He said the three remaining counts touch only on two issues, and his team will review the grounds of the decision once the details of the judgement have been made available.

Read the full statement below:

– The Court of Appeal Verdict Vindicates Me –

We noted the verdict of the Court of Appeal Court today in which it agreed with the decision of the Code of Conduct Tribunal that Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has no case to answer on 15 of the 18 charges filed against him by the Federal Government.

We believe that upholding the no case submission by Dr. Saraki with regards to 15 of the 18 counts charges vindicates the innocence of the Senate President. At least, today’s judgement has confirmed the position of the Tribunal that the prosecution’s case was entirely based on hearsay, not on any concrete evidence.

The verdict of the Court of Appeal, just like that of the Tribunal before it, aligned with our position that the preposterous claims made during trial by the prosecution concerning operation of foreign accounts, making anticipatory declarations, collecting double salaries, owning assets beyond his income and failure to declare assets owned by companies in which the Senate President owns interests, among others, have fallen like a pack of cards and lack any basis.

On the remaining three counts, which really touch on two issues, referred back to the Tribunal for the Senate President’s defence, it should be noted that the Appellate Court only gave a summary of its decision today promising to provide the parties with Certified True Copies of the Judgment soon. As soon as it makes the details of the judgement available, our lawyers will review the grounds of the decision and take appropriate action.

We remain convinced about the innocence of the Senate President on the three ( or two) counts because we believe the decision of the Court of Appeal is not consistent with the submissions made by both parties at the Tribunal. Thus, it is our view that that aspect of the judgment will not stand.

The confidence and faith of Dr. Saraki in the nation’s judiciary and its ability to dispense justice to all manners of people remains unshaken.

Signed:

Yusuph Olaniyonu

Special Adviser (Media and Publicity)

9JA NEWS: ‘Dear I Go Dye you are right, but we can fix Nigeria together’ -Atiku Abubakar responds to Comedian’s open letter

Former Vice-President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has replied Popular Comedian I Go Dye’s call out post and open letter, in which the comedian alleged that he did nothing during his years as Vice President.

Atiku Abubakar has responded to the open letter and below is what he had to say:

    “Dear I Go Dye,
I read your post on Instagram. It was hard to miss it because it was on every major news website. I would like to say that you were mostly right. The questions you raised in your post are similar to the ones I have been asked by other young people on social media, so I am replying this not just to you as a person, but to all young Nigerians who have asked similar questions.

Firstly, you are right. The Nigerian youth have often been taken for granted, and almost every leader in our history has taken young people for granted. But it’s important to point how this started — for people like me who saw Independence; our leadership was mostly driven by young people. Then came the coups, and the civil war, and then more coups. Nigeria ended up with a long period of military dictatorship for many decades, in which time; those young leaders aged, but still remained leaders. Fela, Gani, Enahoro, and Beko were young leaders, yet remained leaders until their demise. That was because of the stagnation brought on by decades of political instability.

By the time we got to 1999, the young people of the day had not been prepared for leadership, because there was no leadership or apprenticeship process under dictatorships. This is one of the reasons the age of leaders has continued to rise. That was because of the leadership stagnation brought on by decades of political instability. Imagine a school that did not graduate any students for 5 years, by the time the top class finally graduates, you will have a backlog of undergraduates.
Our young people are not to blame; we need to remedy this national failure. Last week, there were local government elections in Akwa Ibom State, with over 60% of the seats won by young people, less than 35 years old. That’s how progress can be made. Young people need to participate from the grassroots, all the way across board. Appointments are good, but getting elected is even better. I also understand the issues around funding elections which keep women and young people out, and I will address this in an article I am publishing soon.

I do understand your frustration on the issue, however. I tell people my age that to understand young Nigerians, we need to understand the difference between Nigeria and Naija. Naija embodies the hopes and dreams of young Nigerians, the country they love and long to go home to when they are abroad. Naija is the country that brings them pride in music, film, comedy, fashion, and technology. It is the country of WizKid, Asa, Davido, Tuface, the Olympic bobsled team, Alex Iwobi and Don Jazzy Again.

Nigeria on the other hand, is the country of their parents, the country where leaders are constantly failing them, of Boko Haram, of herdsmen violence, of recessions and joblessness. Our young people need us to make our country live up to the aspirations of Naija by fixing the problems associated with Nigeria.
I think it’s important to address the accusation about my tenure as Vice President, that I did nothing for young people. Firstly, as VP, I can only be judged on the responsibilities I was given. A VP obviously is not the driver of government. For example, you can’t blame Prof Osinbajo for all that is going on with the current government. He can only do what he’s allowed to do.

But let me speak about what you can judge me by, my assigned responsibilities. As VP, I assembled what is arguably the best Economic Team ever in Nigeria. It was made up of young, world class professionals, who came home to work. Some of those professionals are now political leaders, governors and world leaders in their own right.
If you ask what our first task was, coming into government in 1999, it was to bring stability to the economy after decades of military rule. For example, between 1999 and 2003, oil prices then were hovering between $16 and $28 yet we managed to pay up salary arrears from decades back, clear up our national debts and built up foreign reserves. Our GDP grew at the fastest rate we’ve seen since the return to democracy.

You mentioned that I never brought young people into leadership, but my record speaks differently. I have a proven record of bringing young, unknown professionals into service. Many of the professionals and ministers I brought in were in their 30s and early 40s. Some of those young leaders have become governors in their states. I went to the World Bank and met a bright lady, convinced her to come back home, and she became a star in our government. To show you we had effective leadership, the same lady could not replicate her exploits under a different government.

I was also in charge of privatization and I have witnesses that I never interfered with the process. I never bought anything belonging to the government. I was quite wealthy before coming into government, with declared assets worth hundreds of millions of dollars in 1999 (which was put in a trust when I became VP); so it was understandable that many of the wealthy Nigerian business people who participated in the privatization programme were my friends. Did I use my influence to get them better deals? No. As the then DG of BPE testified under oath, I never used my position to interfere with his work.

My legacy as Vice President, I would say is the banking consolidation process, for which I gave political backing for. Many big people were putting a lot of political pressure to not change the status quo, but we knew that if that consolidation was not done, Nigeria could not grow. Because of that banking consolidation, Nigerian banks don’t fail anymore the way they used to.
I oversaw the telecoms revolution, which is why young people like you, I Go Dye, now have a flourishing career. Under our tenure, we witnessed a large repatriation of Nigerians back to Nigeria, driven by the hope of the recovering economy. It is sad that many of those young people are heading back abroad now — this is to show you that leadership matters.

I know many of these have been forgotten because it was a long time ago, and successive administrations did not follow up on the progress we made. But that is also not to say we were blameless. I was largely frozen out in the second term of our tenure, and I regret that we had that disagreement with my boss. Some say I was disloyal, but I looked at the events in Zimbabwe recently, and it gives me confidence that I did the right thing fighting the attempts to elongate the presidential tenure beyond eight years. If I did not win that fight, do you think we would be having a discussion on young people getting into leadership today?
Intels. I want to address this because you mentioned it. It was the Shagari government that started the Onne Port and later abandoned it. In summary, my business partner and I saw an opportunity to build Nigeria’s oil industry using world class infrastructure, but driven by Nigerians. We went out and took loans to build the facilities, but as we went on, more opportunities opened up, which allowed us access to even more capital. We ended up borrowing hundreds of millions of dollars, mostly from Europe, to build the port, singlehandedly charting the course of Nigeria’s oil industry.

Honestly, I did not ever think we would be that successful, which was why I kept my day job, when we started it. It was just what you would call a side hustle, but it grew so big, and I had to quit my government job to focus on it. Today, every oil major uses the facilities we built. The government only became clients after the oil companies. Our company has expanded to several countries in Africa. Even the FG has seen that that company is the most competent logistics company in Africa, which is why it gives Intels the most complex operations to manage.
But Intels as a corporate citizen is loved in the locations it operates. That’s because we invest in scholarships, hire young people from the community and train them to become world class technicians. As CSR, we have gone into partnership with the NFF to train young Nigerian footballers, and provide support for the local league. We are loved by the youth in our local communities.

In my home state of Adamawa for example, I’ve created over 50,000 direct jobs and 250,000 indirect ones. We are the largest private employers of labour in the state only second to the state government. It’s not a lot, but it does help reduce unemployment. Who do you think are holding those jobs? Yes, young people.
I Go Dye, I’m not a messiah. I do not promise Eldorado or $1 = N1. But I always ask to look at the economic progress we made under my leadership and what I am doing in private business and judge me by those. People say I became rich in government. It’s a lie. I had hundreds of millions of dollars in assets declared in 1999. My businesses (my shares of which were held in a Blind Trust while I was in government) continued to grow since then. I was able to personally bankroll the PDP back then, so surely I was not poor. But I understand it is politics. So it’s normal to be called names. But how come in all these years, none of my opponents has found any evidence to indict me?
The people who are afraid of me changing the status quo they enjoy will always try to frighten young people about me.
Some people believe youth empowerment is giving handouts to young people instead of building a strong economy. They are wrong. They want to give handouts so they can control young people. But how long can we continue like that? Our country is borrowing to pay salaries, yet we are still holding on to outdated models just so we can control young people for elections.
The success of young Nigerian entrepreneurs in IT & technology, retail, music, and arts shows that given the chance, they can run anything. My job is to be a bridge, which supports our young people achieve these ideals. I will never say only I can do this. I can’t do it alone. I need your support, I Go Dye, to help our economy grow, to ensure that within 10 years, our young people can take over completely.

In summary, I Go Dye, I am not a person who says what he cannot do or show proof. I am giving you an invitation to sit down and ask me any questions you may have. I would also like to take you around, show you some of the businesses I have built, and let you speak to the young people who run those places. It is good to try to convince you that I can do better by our young people, but it is even better to show you. Send me a direct message on Twitter, and we will take it from there”.

9JA NEWS: “Majority of Police personnel attached to SARS are good, sound, disciplined and commendable officers” – Nigeria Police Force

In a statement issued on their official Facebook page, the Nigeria Police Force has come forward to say that the reorganization of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has already begun.

The statement called on the general public to understand that while there are some bad eggs in the SARS basket, a lot of other policemen are good and commendable.

Read the full statement below.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, MNI, concerned with Public Interest on allegations, complaints and grievances of some members of the public, especially those registered on Social Media, against the activities of some members of SARS has so far made consequent orders for the rehabilitation and reform of SARS. This reorganization was announced three days ago. We are certain that Nigerians have begun to see the impact of these reforms and in the coming days, it would even be more visible.

It is important we highlight that irrespective of some infractions from few personnel of SARS who allegedly acted against the ethics of the Police Profession which are now being investigated, majority of Police personnel attached to SARS are good, sound, disciplined and commendable officers. We assure the general public that we are sieving out the wheat from the chaff in this regard.

We must also highlight that the Federal SARS (FSARS) play a fundamental role in Nigeria’s Security architecture. They have been primarily instrumental to dropping the previously high rate of crime such as armed robbery across the country; we must not discountenance their good work – which they continue to do.

We also commend Nigerians, who out of patriotism, called for these reforms in SARS. Rest assured we are a listening Force working for the good of our country.

We call on Nigerians to Support FSARS to become better, and serve the county better.

Thank you.

9JA NEWS: Atiku “will never be a threat to President Buhari” – El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said he wishes former vice president Atiku Abubakar well as he leaves the All Progressives Congress (APC), Premium Times reports.

Atiku had, in a statement personally signed by him on Friday, announced his resignation from the APC, citing lack of good relationship with the party leadership, among other issues.

In an interview at the State House after attending the Friday juma’at service with the president, El-Rufai said he’d heard Atiku would leave the party in December. He said:

I have heard about what the former Vice President said about leaving the APC. We knew he was going to leave in December but he has left in November which is good because the earlier he leaves for where he belongs, the better.

He has changed political parties a few times, there is nothing surprising. Before the 2019 elections if situation changes and he thinks he can get the ticket in 2019 he will come back. That is what he has done a few times.

El-Rufai said no one will follow Atiku in leaving the party. He said the only one who can, the Adamawa State Governor, Bindow Jibrilla, has already endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 presidency. He said:

I want to assure you that there is no one governor in the APC that is going to go with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The only governor that he would think will go with him, the governor of Adamawa State has already endorsed President Buhari for the 2019 elections.

He added that Atiku is not a threat to Buhari. He said he’d made the statement in Atiku’s presence, adding that he’d told Atiku not to run for president. He said:
He has never been and will never be a threat to President Buhari. Let me say this very clearly, and I have said this to the former Vice President in 2014 Dubai when we met. Because before joining the APC, he sent for me.

However, I told him not to run for the presidency because I believe very strongly this is Buhari’s era.

As long as President Muhammadu Buhari is in politics I do not see any Nigerian from the northern part of the country that will be able to match him in popularity. Anyone standing up to challenge him is wasting his time.

God has decreed that this is Buhari’s time and we are waiting for the PDP to give Atiku Abubakar the ticket and we will face him on the field. But I have no doubt that I will not lose any sleep about it.
