Lil Kesh’s “YAGI” Or Reekado Banks’ “Spotlight” Album, Which Is More Successful ?
Leaders of the new school, Lil Kesh and Reekado Banks both dropped their first official album this year, 2016. Lil Kesh released “YAGI” album on March 17, 2016. Reekado Banks on the other hand released “Spotlight” on the 1st of September, 2016. The two albums have become very successful with both still very much trending.
Lil Kesh the Bariga boy who made it to the limelight through the influence of Olamide after he got signed to YBNL has been very impressive from his first song under YBNL. The release of YAGI proved to everyone that he is here to stay. The album swayed from street rap to club banging songs that Lil Kesh is known for.
Generally I think he made the album for the street. The quality of the production is the selling point of the album. Lyrics wasn’t really on point though but the beat compensated for it.
It’s been over 9 months since the release of YAGI the album and the songs are still buzzing on the street. His hit songs from the album like “Ishe“, “Semilore“, “Cause Trouble“, “Is It Because I Love You“, “Efejoku” and “Ibile” are still getting all the attentions from far and wide.
Though Kesh has released a good amount of videos from the album, but has the album been that successful? Looking at where it is now and how far it should have gone. Lil Kesh’s album for me didn’t really fly like I had expected. After getting all the buzz for like a month the album just went down but it still got recognition at this years Headies for Best Rap Album.
RATING: 6/10
Marvins starboy, Reekado Banks is the only artist on his label to drop an album this year, 2016. He released his debut album “Spotlight” on the 1st of September, 2016 and so far the album has been getting good ratings and reviews. Reekado showed us that he is capable of not just releasing hit singles but also a compilation of hit songs to make up an album.
It might be too early to ascertain the success of the album compared to Lil Kesh, whose album is almost 10 months already but the quality of songs on the album are topnotched with great collaborations from top acts.
The success of Spotlight so far has been impressive but I believe he is not doing enough publicity and promotion considering the fact that the album is just 3 months old. Although some songs from the album are really doing well like “Problem“, “Biggy Man“, “Hey Stranger” and “Killah Whyna“.
The album is still gaining momentum gradually, as most of the songs on the album haven’t really made much impact to keep the album buzzing. Like I said before Reekado Banks still has a lot of work to do in terms of promotion and publicity for the album because the album hasn’t really hit that spot for me.
RATING: 5/10
So the big question now is, Lil Kesh’s “YAGI” Or Reekado Banks’ “Spotlight” Album, Which Is More Successful ?
